Global Peace Initiatives work to assure social justice for the hungry has lead to a national partnership with Milwaukee's Growing Power. Will Allen and his team at Growing Power have selected Global Peace Initiatives to serve as their regional training center in Central Indiana. The first Growing Power “From the Ground Up Workshop” took place March 30-April 1, 2012 at Peaceful Grounds, which is Global Peace Initiatives latest new initiative.
GPI’s new social enterprise, Peaceful Grounds Café and Farm Market: A Center for Agriculture and Sustainable Living will drive redevelopment of the abandoned concrete facility over the next three to five years. This redevelopment project is ongoing. Like any new venture you begin from the ground up. Soil development through vermi-composting is the heart of Peaceful Grounds Operations right now. In the past year, 2092 volunteers from universities, corporations and the general public have volunteered and helped make the property safe for visitors and grow soil for Peaceful Grounds Demonstration Farm. They have worked a combined total of 18,623 hours. Check out pictures of their efforts here. To check out a video of our Open House click here.
Everyday is a special event at Global Peace Initiatives. Our volunteers learn by doing, making our "workshops" the most affordable and accessible workshops around. We will create individualized events for large groups if necessary. Contact us to make arrangements.
