GPI Local Footprint

Peace Hikes
GPI supports the participation of public walks as an exercise for peace consciousness development. GPI sponsored Peace Hikes involve people in a mindful process of walking meditation. With a focus on walking in beauty, walkers begin to see the power of nature and the miracles around them. People improve their health, reduce their stress and make a connection with the world around them in a personal way. While walking, walkers also engage in the highest form of peacemaking, service. They do this as they walk and pick up trash, leaving less of a footprint on the earth and in their neighborhoods. This mindful service while simply walking through the parks and streets of our communities promotes awareness, participation and ownership.

Peace Workshops

Our workshops allow participants to feel peace by doing and then understand why they have felt a measured improvement in their mind, body, spirit connection. We provide people with understanding for the meta-physical self that holds so much importance for our wellness as people of peace. Each workshop is provided with content developed according to a preliminary assessment. Evaluation of the workshop also assures program outcomes. Peace Gardens

Vacant lots are not only possible sites for new homes, but can also be the fertile site for the development of relationships, observation of the miracle of life, fresh food and lessons about healthy eating. In the transitional neighborhoods, young children are not always allowed to stray from the block on which they live and elderly people may not be able to drive to rural settings. Many urban dwellers can find peace of mind, body and spirit from local food production and beautiful garden settings. Urban gardens propose an experience that nurtures a lifetime of respect for nature, wellness and fellowship within the community.

Peace Art

The blight of transitional neighborhoods does not show the care and attention reflected through love, ownership and responsibility.  When ownership in a community is lacking, urban art projects can add richness and meaning to the built environment. Viewing art in a manner that encourages perspectives stimulates possibility orientation. Possibility orientation is the seed of a hopeful mind. We believe through creation and exhibition of art, hope can be nurtured in the hearts of residents throughout transitional communities.
